$1 million pump track coming to Bayside

Local bike riders, scooter fans and BMX lovers can start getting excited – a new pump track is coming soon to Sir Joseph Banks Park, right next to the airport.

Sydney Airport has committed over $1 million in funding to the pump track through our joint community fund with Bayside Council. The council run project will deliver the first pump track in the Bayside area, creating a great new space for riders of all ages and abilities.

Bayside Council also hosted interactive pop-up sessions for the community, including at the Spring Fair, as well as shopping centres and local skate parks. Children and families were encouraged to place sticky dots on concept design boards they liked, share feedback and sketch their own ideas, ensuring voices from across the community were heard.

In the coming months, a draft concept design will be shared publicly by Bayside Council, giving the wider community an opportunity to provide feedback on the designs before construction begins. A dedicated community reference group, made up of local residents and stakeholders, is also helping guide the design process alongside Council and specialist consultants.

Strong community input

The pump track is being shaped by extensive community input, with young people playing a leading role in imagining what the space could become. Last year Bayside Council ran a youth-focused engagement program to hear directly from local children and teenagers about what they wanted to see. A drawing competition invited young people to share their ideas and vision for the track, resulting in more than 130 creative designs, ranging from flowing beginner loops to more challenging features for confident riders.

Where will the pump track be located?

The pump track will be located just west of the main pond in Sir Joseph Banks Park and is being designed with multiple user groups in mind, including beginner riders, teenagers and adults.

Construction is expected to start in the second half of this year.
